The Forensic Geologist Who Rewrites History
Scott F. Wolter is a Minnesota-based forensic geologist, television host, author, and President of American Petrographic Services who has spent over two decades pursuing one radical question: What if the history of North America we learned in school is fundamentally wrong?
While millions know him as the host of History Channel's America Unearthed— which at its peak was the #1 show on H2, outperforming even Ancient Aliens— Scott is far more than a TV personality. He's a working scientist who invented an entirely new field: Archaeopetrography, a forensic process for dating and analyzing ancient stone artifacts.
In a world where most alternative history researchers are theorists, Scott stands apart: he's a hard scientist who lets the rocks speak for themselves.
The Discovery That Changed Everything
It began in 2000, when the Kensington Runestone Museum hired Scott to perform the first-ever modern geological analysis of the controversial artifact. Expecting to prove it a 19th-century hoax, Scott instead found physical evidence of weathering that could not have been faked. His findings shattered the academic consensus and launched a 25-year journey into the hidden history of pre-Columbian exploration.
The Scientist Who Became a TV Star
Scott's unique blend of scientific rigor and "Minnesota Nice" approachability caught the eye of television producers. After the success of the documentary Holy Grail in America, he was tapped to host America Unearthed.
Across four seasons and 39 episodes, Scott investigated everything from the Holy Grail to Masonic conspiracies, always applying the scientific method to historical mysteries.
A Knight of the Temple
Scott's research into the Knights Templar isn't just academic. In recognition of his groundbreaking work uncovering the order's history in North America, Scott was knighted into the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem (SMOTJ). He is also a 32nd Degree Freemason, giving him unique insight into the rituals and symbols he investigates.

Janet Wolter: Partner in Research and Life
Scott's wife Janet isn't just his spouse—she's his chief research partner and a published author in her own right. Janet brings a sharp analytical mind and deep knowledge of European and American history to their collaborative work.
Together, they've traveled the world investigating Templar sites and artifacts. Janet co-authored America: Nation of the Goddess with Alan Butler, and she frequently appears alongside Scott at conferences and on podcasts.
Their son Grant also contributes to research, bringing a healthy skepticism that Scott values. The Wolters are a family operation, united by shared passion for uncovering hidden history.
American Petrographic Services
Scott founded American Petrographic Services in 1990, building it into one of the nation's premier forensic geology laboratories. His firm has conducted over 7,000 material investigations including:
Pentagon concrete analysis and World Trade Center remains analysis after the terrorist attacks.
Helping Las Vegas police solve a 22-year-old murder by dating concrete that encased a victim.
Applying courtroom-quality forensic standards to historical artifact authentication.
"When Scott says a stone artifact is authentic, he's applying the same forensic standards he uses in courtrooms and criminal investigations."
